I wonder 🤔 If public libraries were made private, how much would they need to charge for monthly memberships, at thier current user base, in order to stay afloat and turn a profit? And how much of this user base would immediately unsubscribe, forcing them to raise prices?

How many would completely disappear or go 100% digital within a decade?

I'm not trying to be cynical here or say that libraries should be govt funded at all. I think everything should be privately owned. Just pondering some shower thoughts I had.

There is room for a third option, especially if government gets out of the way: local non for profits funded by voluntary donations. That it's how public libraries were funded before government took them over.
