I just hope cooler heads prevail as we try to mitigate this. I saw some dude on Twitter setting up bounties to basically burn it all down, even if that includes Bitcoin itself. I can't remember his handle at the moment, but he portrayed himself as someone whose been in the space a long time.

The only "political" reason for this attack that I can think of would be to divide the community and agitate for some quick fix that favors the interested party. Like Roger and Jihan keeping the fees high during the blocksize war, while campaigning for a hard fork.

That's a solid theory. The silver lining is attacks usually make the system stronger in the long run. Bitcoin will face many tests like this.

I guess, but it's disappointing to see many people supporting this madness with money, time and code. People incapable of shame shit everything up that they touch.
