yeah. most of the time, the Malay traditional medicine are taken from herbaceous plants which originate from other parts of the world. for example, Senna Alata is a Malay traditional ingredients use as a i) antifungal medicine ii) constipation treatment. suprisingly, this plant is not native to us. it originates from the Mexico / Paraguay region.
what i like about Malay traditional medicine in compare to chinese medicine is despitw both being oriental traditional medicine, the malay use lesser herbs compound in treatment (chinese medicine tend to use elixir or herb mix sourced from different plants).
this is inline with modern medicine in terms of polypharmacy prevention and better understanding of dose-response relationship. in addition, the side effects of herbs can be observed better, and more longitudinal and experimental evidence can be done.
