Good morning Nostr friends.. I do a lot of self hosting on a NAS I set up from a Mac Mini.. it works great.. and for a while I was using FileRun as my solution for searching files on my NAS..

Then - FileRun decided they wanted to charge money for personal users.. Their software is decent but not home license worthy. So I looked for other options.. and I found a couple.. Both can be set up on Docker.. and one can be installed via HomeBrew

Filebrowser is a decent FOSS solution that you can install via Docker or Homebrew:

github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser

filebrowser.org/installation

Filestash is free for personal self-hosted use and is at least as robust as FileRun.

www.filestash.app

www.filestash.app/docs/install-and-upgrade

Hope someone finds this useful..

They should pay the users for wasted time setting up and learning FileRun and then making users switch from free to paid.

True. I was pissed when I found this out.

I was using filebrowser for few years and it is decent and very usable. Not a lot of features but I think that is a good thing. What I love about it is that it just works on regular plain files and directories - everything can interface with that. can recommend would run again

Good call out on Filebrowser. You can easily start up with brew on macOS and you’re off to the races. Like you said it’s simple and is specifically made to be simple.
