It’s tough, I’m not extremely well versed in signal but they emphasized freedom and their need to exist and set up a foundation and generate a lot of revenue from grants and donations while not compromising on privacy and freedom tech.

I see many nostr clients similarly - freedom apps, that could be run as a foundation like signal (not that nostr needs a foundation, but client specific)

There are many clients either not offering enough features that make them unique, or not available cross-platform, and they are all pretty much early-stage works in progress. I’m also not entirely sure where this funding is supposed to come from.

Without advertising, and for many clients use-cases, I’m not sure why we don’t see more signal-like org setups for clients.

Or a pay-to-play model but I still don’t think that covers operating expenses at scale (only premium features for subscribers maybe, but not baseline costs)
