I would probably like to see a nostr client which is basically archivedotorg's film and tv archive reskinned with a better UI, better categorisation (genre, decade, ratings by nostr following).

The ability to rate and review, mark as watched / want to watch.

With a phpBB style forum for discussion.

Ability to sync stream and make rooms ( cytu.be or the nostr version liveparty.app )

All on one site. This would be amazing. Probably quite difficult to do tho lol but just throwing it out there.

Basically a social version of archiveorg

I think something like this would have 'mainstream' appeal, just saying.

No, fragmenting nostr narrows down the appeal by bringing it further from complete

Time people spend filling the index in a movie-only app could be spent filling the index in a general-purpose wiki that would give wider appeal, so taking away from that results in less wide appeal

dtan for indexing torrent data

wiki for indexing other film data, links to reviews, etc.

that's all you need for a more social version of archive.org

I think curated sync stream rooms (a la Cytube) and a film discussion forum would work really well along with this

Hell yeah on those

This would be a good starting point. A place to stream anything and discuss it.

I sort of quite like the limitations of archiveorg, it also has stuff I reckon is not on stremio (although I haven't used it) I'm thinking more art shorts and rarities.

EffedUp movies would also be a good one to integrate, they have some of these features.

Adding cytube functionality: The ability to open a room add movies to a playlist, have vote skip (optional) and sync watch parties would be amazing.

But really because archiveorg doesn't really have a suitable UI, but a really decent selection. I think people would actually use it

Stremio is pretty versatile. At its core it's like trakt. Let's you catalogue your movies and tv shows, track what you've watched, sync it between devices. It has plugins for playing them, ranging from commercial stuff (Netflix, Hulu etc), to torrents and even archive.org.

It's a versatile tool for finding anything to stream, regardless of source or legality. It also has a plug-in system so it is extensible to get the features you want. There's a watch party plugin even.

But does it have a phpBB -style forum ;)

No, but this is neat ๐Ÿ‘€ There are a lot of plugins!

Why do you need a forum? Canโ€™t you just discuss under the note?

Thatโ€™s the part I donโ€™t fully get either. If itโ€™s a nostr client, why not discuss directly with the note

Forums are less 'chatroom'. You can have sub forums like requests, discussion of films in cinemas, requests, off topic etc etc. it would also bump threads which have been interacted with recently. You know like a classic phpBB forum.

It would also be a forum-client which was topic-focused and perhaps appeal to people outside of the bitcointwitter chatroom bubble.

It's just an idea.

Alternatively: You could also have a sidebar of Latest Comments maybe? Just another idea.

But mostly thinking a reskinnwed archive films with better UI, ability to discuss, rate films, add to watchlist etc ect. Could have fairly wide appeal.

That's my thinking. Perhaps mixture of aolarmovies and letterboxd. But yeah, I suppose a forum isn't essential for this.

Like just replying to where the movie was posted to discuss that movie?

No problem there, but forums can also have posts like "I miss blockbuster stores of the VHS era" or "what's a good documentary about parrots"

I'm a user of stremio, it does some of what you want. With Nostr for the login, plus every show & movie having a discussion forum would be a great thing.

This would be better fit for a wiki

A complete wiki should have a complete list of movies with pages for every movie and the pages for every movie should have links to lists of reviews, and the ratings from those reviews can be used to sort the list of movies, and so can the genre, decade, etc

But this would also have all the soundtracks of the movies and all the books some of them are based on too, there's no reason to fragment it into a different app limited to movies
