What state are you in that a whole beef costs that much from a sale barn? That seems ~25-50% higher than usd average prices for grassfed and finished.

Missouri. My impression was that this was really high, too. I asked the processor what prices were right now and he said it’s stupid high at $3/lb on the hoof. Makes me want to start doing it all for Bitcoin, the path I’ve seen some ranchers taking lately.
That is where i am... What butcher did yall use so i make sure never to go there, that is fucking ridiculous. Usda report for a whole grassfed beef is 8.95/lb and that is hanging weight and includes butcher fees. Guess im glad I'm ramping up cuz i will have space to grow a market for beef here
I can tell it’s a market in flux. Inflation enters smooth at the top and takes time to ripple through markets to find the new price levels as settled in varied sectors. Some snap like whips in recoil with amplified changes. But we’ll see. Here are the numbers from this one.
$2000 - 768lbs on the hoof delivered
$448.92 - Dressed at 456lbs & proc
Total finished cuts: 260lbs
Oh. Now i think i understand, these are tiny little dexters getting butchered arent they? That is a small cow to be getting processed.
