There would be no nuclear reactor for the engineer to operate without the public’s consent and complicity. Your analogy doesn’t hold: authority is never self-justifying. Nobody is above scrutiny. Authority is not claimed—it is conditionally granted, and once granted, it remains fragile, revoked the moment those entrusted prove unworthy of the respect that sustained it.
