Anyone have a good guide on balancing lightning channels?

I'm running umbrel on top of ubuntu on an old PC and feel like I'm not doing a great job of channel management.

No guide, but if you have more than one channel, I think you can use RTL do do circular payments to balance between them.

Goto 'peers/channels' in left hand menu of RTL.

There is an actions dropdown next to the channel.... Played with that?

I have but fails, not sure why. Was running around 20 channels at one point.

I'm using LNDg for automating these tasks. But imho it's better to let the network balance the channels for you by changing your fees as needed.

That said, I'm not happy with Umbrel. Being tor-only makes your node collect much less fees than a normal node.

there is an app on umbrel

go to app store on umbrel

find ride the lightning app

does channel rebalancing

That fails for me. Ive tried but it never goes through on RTL.

you need a full node for that. full node app from umbrel.

if not, use lightning terminal for channel liquidity management

or lnd boss

Welcome, the struggle is real… 😂

Depends on the type of node you’re running: routing or spending.

If you have 10+ channels on a routing node I suggest learning to use some management/automation tools, to avoid it taking up too much of your time. Learning curve in beginning, but time savings will compound over time after getting everything set up.

If you have a 2-3 channels just for spending then you can try some manual circular rebalancing between them, when one gets too out of balance.

What management or automation tools would you recommend?

LNDg for routing nodes. RTL for manual channel rebalancing for a spending node.
