One of the many prudent points for attention in a vegan diet is consuming enough EPA and DHA (the marine omega 3s). A solution is to supplement them from algae. It is, however, expensive to get 1g of them combined per day in the belly.

Some run the gauntlet and only consume ALA (the plant omega 3), which is a precursor of EPA and DHA. Humans are rather inefficient at this conversion, although females are generally better at it—probably due to child bearing.

For us omnivores, we have another trick up our sleeves (other than eating fish): our birdies! 🐓🐣

Birds tend to be more efficient at converting ALA to EPA and DHA, especially if they are non-marine birds—like my quail, for example.

Feeding your egg-layers ALA from linseeds, or the like, has a lovely consequence of EPA and DHA concentrations increasing in the yolks of their eggs . . .

Seeds are amazing.

Birds are amazing.

You are amazing.
