I can't think of an exception. Government regulators always end up defending their favorites among those regulated (usually those who pay well or provide future inducements) rather than protecting the public like they were created to do. At this point, I think we'd be better off with zero regulation on almost everything.

Using regulatory capture as a means to secure your market share is as natural as breathing air in crony capitalism. In short they are most likely one and the same… but I don’t blame the player. It’s a prisoners dilemma situation, build a regulatory moat or die.
