Why is (real) maple syrup very valuable and maple leafs are not considered valuable? (#grownostr)

Have you ever tapped a maple tree, collected sap, and boiled all the gallons to make just a few ounces of syrup?

I personally have not but my father-in-law has and he tells me about it every chance he gets. It's apparently really hard work for very little reward.

It takes a high energy input to make the real stuff.

Eat a maple leaf and then some maple syrup and let me know if that helps shed little light on why one is valued more than the other by some folks πŸ˜‚

The syrup is definitely more desirable.

This isn’t twitter. Y’all could have answered that the syrup is more desirable, much more scarce, and requires a high energy and time input to process.
