We homeschool. We were attending a family conference and there is a children's section. One of the children's teachers told our 7 year old she should go to school because shes not learning good at home. By learning, I think the teacher meant sitting still in class. Any thoughts on the value of learning to sit still in class for homeschool kids?

I struggle with this one too. I think sitting still and focusing on what is being taught is not only respectful but to the child's benefit from a focus standpoint.

Ultimately, they need to learn to be still and be perceived to be focused completely on the speaker if they will ever have a real job.

Your not alone, but I don't think sending them to a school is the answer. A 7 year old can learn to be still later. As long as she is learning at pace with peers the other benefits of homeschool out weigh this issue.

Thanks for this. I am thinking that we need to implement some more practice of sitting still, standing in ques, etc... at home, but ultimately I want my children to be passionate about exploration, finding the truth, and brave enough to go against the crowd. My daughter is a slow reader (so was I) but she can carry on very challenging conversations with me and other adults. It would be nice if there was a local option that offered classes one day a week where she learned the skills of sitting still and standing in a que.
