Most normal people have a fairly chaotic kitchen experience but if you watch the cooking channel or follow culinary YouTubers you’re probably unconsciously familiar with the French concept of “Mise En Place” — pre-staging ingredients in little cups makes for great TV but isn’t how most people cook 😇

'Mise en place' is even more than that. It's all the preparation you can do before the customers comes. Having cold bottles of water, soda and all that are part of the mise en place too

I consider mise en place to be just getting the ingredients out and ready to go...the little cups / pre-measured portions thing takes much longer. But I'm just a cookbook author, so what do I know 😅
