Not if you want the future of payments to be self custodial.
Imo anyways.
Doesn't mean we won't be using lightning. Reread my post. Lightning will be the bridge between everything.
Yes, I understand lightning will be the glue that connects all other networks. A wonderful settlement layer. Don't mistake my view as a disregard for the solutions that Lightning brings to payments.
What is the solution you have in mind?
I don't think the solution is one thing. I think it's many things. Liquid, mercury, ark, lightning, fedimints. All solutions. We should not be afraid to explore them all.
All of these are already working on using Lightning as an interoperability layer, unfortunately.
If we're not careful, lightning will be to #bitcoin how JavaScript is to the web.
Imagine if Bitcoin could do this. It can if we allow it. Nostr would be insane.
The closer we can stay to the Bitcoin ethos the better of course. Self custody. Self sovereign. The closer to L1 the better.
I never said we (humanity) won't be using lightning. Of course we will be. I said it's not the solution to scaling Bitcoin payments to individuals without large custodians.
