Producing milk to feed my daughter is the strongest and most important thing I have ever done in my life. Formula seems to be just another fiat food scam. Avoid if possible.

I am happy for you and congratulations on the birth of your child!

While i definitely agree with you that it is the best my wife and me have not been very fortunate. We could not manage to get our children to drink from my wife's breast. We went very far with this and tried for several weeks with both children. If we had not had formula both our children would have starved to death. We kept on going with my wife pumping milk every hour and a half while i went and heated up the milk from the previous session. The whole ordeal took about an hour so if i was lucky i could get 30ish minutes of sleep before repeating.

In the end with both children my wife got infections in her breasts which meant we had to quit. With our first born this was after 3 weeks and with our second one after not even 2.

While i agree that if there's no need to give formula other than convenience mother's milk is definitely best but i would like to praise formula for saving both my children.

Thank you for sharing your experience and i am very sorry if I offended you, I did not mean to blame, this is why I said to avoid it „if possible“. I know there are women that try very hard and I am sorry you and your wife went through that struggle. It’s just that I see a lot of mothers that don’t breastfeed because it’s to inconvenient or because they want to rush back to work etc.

and I don’t blame them either but I think they are victims of the fiat system, telling them that this is the way to go.

Ah no worries! I did not feel offended, just felt like sharing the story.

Over here in the netherlands there is really strong narrative to breastfeed for sure, which is great. In the end it is still a choice. It's a double edged blade since you are not only deciding on your own convenience but you are not setting up your child for the best possible start and i know it can make a big difference.

I can't imagine nurses or midwifes not strongly recommending breastfeeding. It definitely has down sides but also loads of upsides since you don't have to take formula and hot water if you're going somewhere where you cannot properly prepare the formula.

I hope your child is doing well and wish you all the best. Keep that bonding going, nothing you can ever experience again after it's completed.
