Oh good point... if I make a post with a self hosted image, I can see the pings from everyone who views the image then? Even if they don't interact with the message.
And ya.. the most obviously hilarious part is twitter users suddenly worried someone might see their IP.
Some clients let you disable remote images, I run a custom build to block outside of my friend circle, but still run under VPN anyways
Yeah the sudden awareness is very much grasping for straws. They are actually just sheep on the twitter system and want everything done for them.
You may as well learn scoveign computing, open source and GNU Linux at this point. Expand your mind and learn something worth while - be more than just an end user. (Now this isn't possible for all but for those who complain this much they ought to do so)
