Nikola Tesla was supposed to have built wireless power systems - one of the most famous photos of him indeed involves a radial coil that did this sort of thing

as far as i know, those "wireless charger" panels are just plain old solenoids and don't work at more than about 1cm distance which is hardly ground breaking compared to half a centimetre with ordinary ferrite core coils... modulation is very important somehow
