Molnupiravir is a medication designed to combat the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes COVID-19. It operates by tricking the virus during its replication process.

When the virus tries to copy its genetic material, Molnupiravir causes errors or mutations to occur. These mutations are generally harmful to the virus and can even kill it, which is good for reducing the amount of virus in your body (viral load).

However, there’s a catch. If the drug doesn’t completely eliminate the virus from someone’s system, the mutated versions could continue to spread. This creates a risk that these new mutated forms could be transmitted to other people, and we don’t fully know what the consequences of that could be. #science #study #covid
