I am literally trying to give away thousands of sats on LinkedIn and I had one taker in the last two hours. And he’s already on Nostr.
Discussion
Lol if your sats don’t find a home their are worth plebs on here. Not me, but others!
I’m trying to propagate outside our circle.
At first I was worried offering $1 per person was too much. Now it might be too little.
That’s bullish!!
Why does it feel like here in nostr that we want to normalize giving sats away for free? As a Bitcoiner I epitomize “proof of work” as an ideological bases for earning hard money.
Why now does it appear that we want to give bitcoin away to individuals who don’t work for it? I know I’m not the only person to feel this way.
Tipping/Zapping on nostr or through educational platforms like lightningsats is different. Showing gratitude for someone by giving them bitcoin I believe is an excellent idea, particularly when there is an educational piece involved, and I’ve seen that bitcoin flows through nostr a lot more freely than I’ve ever seen anywhere else.
But trying to plainly give bitcoin away is not something I particularly agree with for many reasons. The main reason is that folks who receive bitcoin this way may believe it’s worthless and only good for giving away.
Is free advertising free?
Paid engagement can add value even though not directly.
Host a zap contest to gain followers.
Being seen as someone who regularly zaps at a loss to reward basic engagement or incentivize future engagement can be a value add to the zapper.
I’d use fiat for the purposes you present here.
Maybe I have a different framework for how bitcoin can be used. I’d like to learn more about the use cases you mentioned.
I would also prefer to use fiat and if I tried to do this before Nostr I would have. Nostr is my first time using lightning ⚡️
I see Bitcoin as both the greatest discovery in my lifetime as well as the best money. I have a separate stack that is cold storage only. I’m waiting for hyperbitcoinization.
When I zap on here it is because I’m surrounded by bitcoiners using sats as the medium of exchange. I will “zap and replace” the goal of nostr is not become a social media influencer and make a living. I could just hodl the sats and do better than that attempt.
What I aim to do is to use Bitcoin with Bitcoiners on a small level that outside of my holdings. With this I intend to liberally zap users as the creates a feeling of happiness. And when users are happy and having fun they are more likely to engage in great conversations or memes, which brings me happiness in return.
#[3] I don’t think i explained my experiment clearly. I just posted a question asking who among my connections knew what the Lightning Network was, and if they did, or didn’t, to let me know. I got three responses and only one invoice.
I wrote the following:
This post is an experiment. I want to know who among my connections has any experience using, or even knows what the Lightning Network is.
If you do, you can reply with either an invoice (up to $1) or with a Lightning address.
If you have no idea what I’m even talking about, let me know as well!
It’s also the best way I have seen so far to expose newbies to Bitcoin (via Lightning); and many Bitcoiners to spending (which is something many of us were reluctant to do before).
Keeping two separate stacks is key. I have zero regrets any time I zap sats around on Nostr.
