Best part about switching from iOS to GrapheneOS is open source app installs. No more waiting for Apple to approve TestFlight and AppStore builds. Just download apk and install.!

Getting a 6a tomorrow. Gonna try carrying 2 phones to slowly transition to GraphemeOS.

Watch out for bugs and some apps not working. Specially banking.

Welcome back to world 🍻🀩

What’s the worst part ?

Bugs. App crashes, some apps don't work. Etc.

Just to clarify when you say bugs and apps crashing.

Csn you let me know about the bugs you experience? The feedback would be helpful.

Regards apps crashing, if apps crash you can try to turn on native code debugging in SETTINGS>SECURITY some apps rely on it even if it is bad practice to do so.

Also games may crash due to inherent memory corruption issues but again there is a toggle to opt out of using hardened_malloc for this purpose found in the App Info pane (Exploit Protection Compatibility Mode).

Otherwise they may crash due to hard dependencies on Play Services which can again be installed thanks to our sandboxed Play Services method such as Banking.

Every issue has an opt in toggle to help mitigate any app issues however each either reduce security of the OS or may affect privacy dependent on what permissions are granted and info voluntarily given by the user.

App crashes really aren't an OS related issue but down to the apps themselves and the users threat model/enforcement/use.

The ONLY apps outside this scope known 100% to not function due to limitations/dependencies on SafetyNet/Play Integrity are GPay/Google Wallet and Android Auto due to privileged system level access requirements.

If you're looking at banking apps there is a resource that can be looked up and contributed to at https://privsec.dev/posts/android/banking-applications-compatibility-with-grapheneos/

Glad to see you're enjoying your GrapheneOS journey so far.

Hit me up if you have any OS specific questions or feedback.

Happy to hear from you.

Take care πŸ‘
