Jean-Michel Basquiat interview, 1985
Discussion
That's a painful watch, I guess the interviewer felt pretty crap afterwards handing in 10 words of copy.
I have no idea what the interviewer's objective or objectives were. It starts off very badly with yes-or-no questions, and when she asks follow-up questions, she does so looking for a specific answer. Basquiat is thoughtful and takes the time to decide what to answer, what not to answer and how to answer.
From my point of view, I would say there is much more than ten lines to write about the interview if you analyze both the kind of questions and the interviewee.
Fair point, I just wonder what happened before hand that put him in that frame, I’ve seen other footage where he’s significantly more amiable.
