ok so I just ordered a 2nd adapter. this is from a more reputable company (in the 2013-2015 era of MacBook SSD replacement niche) & I hope this makes it work lol

or I've just spent almost £60 on a glorified external SSD!

and yes i probably could have spent this money/less on a 2nd hand MacBook (prob a better one) from eBay, but you get the point (idk what the point is)
