In 1851, the NY yacht club challenged the British to a race around the Isle of Wight. They sent 1 boat and we had 11. When the American boat won Queen Victoria, who was in attendance, asked the commodore of the Royal Yacht Squadron "did we come second?". He responded "there is no second marm"
