The free world and its values aren't necessarily defined by right or left politics. I agree with you that Europe has been shooting itself in the foot for quite some time. Excessive regulation, high taxes, expensive and ineffective redistribution, questionable subsidies, and unhealthy dependencies have all weakened us. The encroachment on civil liberties in the name of sustaining western values is definitely unfortunate. Thankfully, many of these measures did not ultimately pass—like the proposed ban on end-to-end encryption, an incredibly stupid idea.
