Here for it
A dumb question - why can't https://podcastindex.org/?homescreen=1 be a relay on nostr network .. each podcast an event accessible from any client ?
An RSS feed is a text document that lists each podcast, where to find the audio, where to find the podcast cover image, etc. This is how podcasts are published. When a new podcast is published, the RSS feed document is updated. An RSS feed can be hosted anywhere on the internet but many are hosted through RSS service providers who also host the audio files.
To make a nostr podcasting client, you need to integrate with RSS protocol. But, you can publish special nostr-only episodes as nostr events, you can verify an RSS feed belongs to a nostr pubkey, you can associate nostr comments with podcast episodes, and you can do zaps and lightning stuff.
To make a podcast fully on nostr would make it incompatible with all major podcasting software.
However, things like npub.pro create an RSS feed for you based on your nostr events that contain audio or video, allowing anyone to start publishing a podcast very easily. That's really cool!
So you are saying , publish a podcast on #nostr - rss text fields as well as content ( a new event type maybe ) .... and then use npub.pro ( or similar solution ) to feed legacy rss clients .. eg Spotify or Apple ..if one wishes to ..
That way a podcaster also gets a nice home page on npub.pro , plus captures all the social interactions (on nostr) on the home page ..
Did I get it right ? Broadly ..
you got it!
So essentially, we are building a nostr specific podcasting solution , that also feeds to the broader RSS community ..
The rss world may not need all the fields that nostr peovides ..such as digital identity of the publisher .. but in due course they will understand the importance of signing the podcasts ... because AI tools will create almost indistiguable replicas of popular pods .. imagine a #noAgenda show where Adam is actually an AI :-)
I think podcasters will want to use nostr because it will be incredibly easy to directly engage with their community on a level never before possible
