The fact that it's a CIA project.

The precautionary principle (innovation is guilty until innovators convince regulators it’s innocent) is characteristic of the EU.

Sad

What's the problem with this? Why should a ban on this be wrong?

"a ban on real-time remote biometric identification systems in public spaces, and biometric categorisation systems that place people in groups by gender, race, and ethnicity, for example, predictive policing and emotional recognition systems.'

Seems like EU is doing the right thing.

Read on. Seems they threw that in to justify the law.

These are the other 2 points.

2. The Commission is set to establish a system for registering standalone high-risk AI applications in a public EU-wide database.

3. For all AI, the Act sets out an onus on developers to assess of the quantity and suitability of training data sets, as well as examine them for possible biases.

Sounds okay.

Sounds like another barrier to doing business in EU. Who defines β€œhigh risk”?

As usual, the law. Registering in a database it's not equivalent to stopping from doing business.

How does open source fit into that? Do open source devs need to register too? If so, it seems like a burden on open source and not so much of anything to big players who probably have teams to deal with this type of thing.

We don't know yet. But from that article I don't see any problems. Just goes along with the usual EU personal data protection laws.

What's wrong with keeping EU citizens safe from the dangers of AI? πŸ€ͺπŸ˜‰

The dangers of making too much progress and risk replacing legacy entrenched companies πŸ€”

...and more importantly, the danger of exposing the true nature of those political institutions.
