The idea behind advertising shouldn't be shoving adds in people's face against their will. Zapvertising is powerful because it allows a v4v exchange, but far more relevant because you can target people who are receptive to ads!

Who do I want to zapvertise to? People who WANT to see my ads. People who want to buy my products and services or consume my content. Individuals enthusiastic about participating in a Nostr economy. I don't want to waste my sats marketing to people who are resistant.

So yeah, spam zaps will be an issue, but that's one we can solve. And if folks want to turn off viewing zapvertising I 100% support that. If I client disables it by default, I will personally not use that client. Both because they remove the user's choice (centralizing) and because I want to see zapvertisments.

We're so early.

I’m giving it a go right now myself to see it’s affect. I can see both sides as I don’t want it to become spammy. I like the idea that someone can turn it off if they want. But hey, they still got sats out of it. And agree, I see signs and warnings that some of Nostr will get too controlling. Hope not, but the Internet itself was no different too. The early days was wide open like the Wild West. Now it’s so controlled. I really really hope this doesn’t become the norm on here too.

You know what stops it from become centralized? Us.

Give it a shot! I had a very positive response from zapvertising, and if I lost any followers from doing so, that's okay too. I'm not for everyone. I think making the amount you zap something worthwhile for the viewer is a great approach, and I also think targeting individuals likely to be interested or able to purchase your products is smart. It's the tiny zap amount spam on every note that will get you hated.

Totally makes sense πŸ€™

I agree. Where else do you get a pretty specific demographic and can interact with them in such a way as nostr? Bots sending low number of Sats automatically is just a form of spam. But sending a proper amount to get someone's attention is the price of their attention. I'm not even a fan of putting links/pics that appear next to zap amount (in Amethyst does this). A good zapvertising account Zaps and interacts with people. Answers their questions and provides value even before selling them something. πŸ€™πŸ’œ

I agree that interaction is the best form of advertising
