What am I looking at

Blocks node is offline

block's node is offline. the node uses AWS.

Oh damn, that’s gotta hurt.

Meanwhile my node is humming along just fine.

I just don't understand why a company as big as block would use someone else's server for something so critical to their business.

The same reason that other companies do. Business continuity, disaster recovery, and service level agreements that allow them to focus on their core business instead of running the infrastructure for this.

It would seem to me like you could have all that and still do everything yourself. River does...
