You press “like” because it makes you feel like you did something meaningful when in reality you didn’t. It’s worthless. Zap or don’t zap. Comment or don’t comment. Repost or don’t repost. Likes are just not meaningful and are simply a tool of legacy social media to inform algorithms.

Opinions we all have them

Did you even read what I wrote? I understand you have your opinion on what likes used to be, but I just told you why I use them now. Me telling somebody with a quick button click that something they created made me smile or smirk and I see you, maybe thats worthless to you because you want money for everything you post i guess? But to me and probably a lot of people thats not worthless. I repost and I comment and zap things also, not just likes. Something may be pointless to you, or you only view it in its old outdated form, but it still has value if you can separate it from your hatred of who created it. Comments are difficult for me in general (i’ve always been a lurker, i don’t ever text even or text people back haha) but i still like to do them if something moves me to.

Likes are a more subtle way to participate. You don’t seem like a very shy or reserved person 😂😅 so maybe thats part of why its difficult for you to see other perspectives on the matter 🤷‍♂️

Do you understand at all what I was saying in my original post with the meme? Please look again.

Well maybe I don’t understand the post then, are you saying that what we currently have and are building is unsustainable to grow nostr? And the like button is part of the cause of Nostr not being able to win out in the end? Isn’t this the space to be free of centralized platforms? Or you mean that the clients here are too centralized?

Because otherwise, you already have that now here at Nostr and you are super early with a great position to take advantage of millions coming over and still zapping. All i was doing was trying to explain why people do what they do in the second frame and use likes

Likes to drive algorithms is certainly true

Even on nostr. Just look at the existing trending feeds
