Pretty sure it was listed on nostr.watch long enough for the spammers to find it. I'm watching the logs right now since I enabled NIP-05 verification and I can see it kicking a few npubs.

Yes that will refuse the validation and will not gave theme the badge but they will still be able to publish events no? Pub Key whitelist can stop them I suppose but no one will be able to send events, maybe not thé best way to do it
Yeah you use pubkey whitelist for setting up a paid relay.
NIP-05 verification, if set to 'enabled' will not allow writing events from non-NIP-05 verified npubs. The problem is that NIP-05 is very easy to get.
