🚨 JUST IN: Tether Treasury mints 1 billion $USDT on TRON.
Discussion
Do you understand the implications of this? I have never fully understood how tether works
They take in 1 US dollar. They buy a US Tbill and hold it as collateral. They issue USDT onto digital exchanges so people can buy and sell crypto or hold as a stable coin vs the USD.
Notice there isn't anymore Tether FUD. You know why? They have become one of the largest buyers of US Treasuries. They are helping to keep a bid alive on dead treasuries. Otherwise the government would have to print money to buy their own bonds to maintain interest rates.
So Bitcoin getting bigger and people wanting USDT is actually good for the US dollar now and actually will help it become the last FIAT that collapses into Bitcoin.
As of the third quarter of 2024, Tether's holdings of U.S. Treasury securities amounted to approximately $102.5 billion, positioning it as the 18th largest holder globally, surpassing countries such as Germany, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates.
This significant holding underscores Tether's substantial presence in the U.S. Treasury market, reflecting its role in the global financial ecosystem.
They will probably be #1 by January 2026.
