Couldn't we improve the spam situation on global by allowing users to set global to only show posts by users that are ___ degrees of separation away? In other words, "set global to only show posts from friends of friends" ie 2 degrees of separation or "set global to only show posts from accounts up to 3 degrees of separation" ie friends of friends of friends.

As long as your friends' friends aren't following spammers for some reason, this should clean up the global feed quite a bit, no? #[0]

I believe this is what Iris.to is doing, it works. It's not exactly friends of friends, but it's like... craw your posts, likes, and those real people's likes, posts, etc, for everything.

You can build a graph of the whole network and spammers are an order of magnitude less connected than damn near everyone else.

it mostly works, spam still gets thru and you miss lots of real content tho
