Do you understand why more and more injustice is being done by states to their citizens, taxes are higher than ever and citizens do nothing about it?
Because you have given all your data to the big tech companies, sold your life to Facebook, Instagram and other shit, and now your behavior is predictable.
The states know more than ever how far to squeeze and they will do it continuously and inexorably until you won't have any rights or wealth left.

A big part of the problem seems to be the boiling frog phenomenon, the slow creep of surveillance, the glacial but inexorable chipping away of rights and of sense. If these things happened more suddenly they would be met with more resistance.

The Klingon Empire has done exactly this to countless worlds. Imagine our surprise when we found one that was doing it to itself!
Well, me personally no I have not, never had social media, always on Tor/VPNs, always e2ee IM, etc.
But I'm one of the few, and so I've slowly watched what you describe happening in slow motion over the years.
If the unthinking idiots who perpetuate this state of affairs would be the one to suffer the consequences of their ignorant stupidity, whatever, karma and all.
But no. Everyone, including those who did think things through, is dragged down by the idiocy.
Oh well. Vote with your feet and all that.
The worst part of it all, especially what I personally find the most challenging, is being the only one in your circle who noticed this a long time ago and sees how everyone around continues in the same situation. It's tough to see your friends and family seemingly oblivious, and particularly hard to have to keep silent because your words would directly hurt their emotions.
How are you guys handling that? I feel more and more isolated each time.
