Interesting comparison w/ the Byzantine Empire. I never realised it showed similar pattern, but could have guessed…
Rome showed very similar patterns of decline as the US:
- centralisation (from Republic to Empire)
- increasing cost of army and gov
- Debasement
- Total economic downward spiral & eventual collapse
