Looks like honey mushrooms. Did you have a cold snap?
Discussion
I wouldn't call it "cold" but it has been in the 50s at night. Several groups of these were found today in various stages from fresh to dried and black to dark ground in color. Several groups were found growing around maple and shagbark hickory tree roots. Other groups were on much older dead logs.

Sounds like honey mushrooms, some folks like them. They make my stomach hurt & I don’t like the flavor. May be worth your research though sometimes you can find dozens of pounds in one day of foraging.
You usually only find them 1-2 times per year and the get old very fast
Here's another group of them.
