I think the key fact here is:
Conservatives don't like democracy.
Surprise surprise.
The leopards can use makeup to cover their spots, but it even the best make up washes off with time.
Please note that in the 1920/30s in Germany the conservatives did cosy up with the Nazis because of this overlap, they both did not believe that democracy is a good thing. (rather well researched historically)
So it's no random mistake that Donald likes his Proud boys. 🤷
