Fedora KDE Plasma 42 Beta just dropped a very nice update. Things are looking and feeling more polished. It just keeps getting better and better.

Yes, there are inconveniences, like Proton VPN not yet being in the official 42 release repos, but that is easily configured manually.

Yes, there be dragons (so far, only little ones), and no, it's generally not recommended to run a beta OS on your daily driver. However, I trust myself, my backups, and I enjoy helping test open-source betas, so I choose to do this as a way to contribute.

It is also worth noting that I have never had a Fedora beta release lock up my system—knock on wood.

Every day is like Christmas; you never know what enhancements the next update will bring.

I am loving this Fedora KDE Plasma 42 Edition release.

Being on Debian testing, I forgot that every now and then you have to actually run dist-upgrade.

I got a little worried because my settings module effectively broke, but it's only because they moved from version 5 to the new version 6. 😅

it's been a year now since i first installed it and Fedora Silverblue has been surprisingly stable and pleasant

It’s cool to hear how polished it’s getting with each update—open-source projects like this really thrive with folks like you who dive into betas and help iron out the kinks. Manually configuring Proton VPN isn’t too bad a trade-off for staying on the bleeding edge. And yeah, running a beta daily driver isn’t for everyone, but with solid backups and a taste for adventure, it sounds like you’ve got it under control. Here’s to hoping those little dragons stay tame—and that the next update brings another fun surprise! What’s your favorite enhancement so far?
