Wawel Royal Castle is a fortified complex located in Kraków, Poland, on Wawel Hill above the Vistula River.

The first stone structures on the hill date back to the 11th century, but the present castle was largely constructed during the reign of King Casimir III the Great in the 14th century and expanded under King Sigismund I the Old in the 16th century, who commissioned Italian architects to remodel it in Renaissance style.

The castle complex includes defensive walls, gates, towers, courtyards, and multiple buildings such as the Royal Palace and Wawel Cathedral. The main palace features arcaded courtyards and a rectangular plan, with residential and ceremonial halls.

The surrounding fortifications consist of bastions and towers that were modernized during the Renaissance and later periods.
