I’m gonna get so many Artists on platforms like nostr:npub1yfg0d955c2jrj2080ew7pa4xrtj7x7s7umt28wh0zurwmxgpyj9shwv6vg they’re going to think I’ve lost my mind 🤯

By "platforms like wavlake" do you mean other walled gardens with control over your feed and sats, or do you mean open ecosystems with self custody?

Why not just teach them to self-host their own RSS feed? We're all about decentralizing and sovereignty here.

Then the musicians can receive 100% of their value uncustodied and add limitless value splits for guest musicians, artists, etc.

The costs that go into doing this is not trivial for many Africans. I had to save up & was lucky enough to be able to do so, to get my equipment when I ran my podcast.

I am with you on Artists being able to do this, but there are still barriers for many & they shouldn’t be excluded from gaining new audiences & access to global money because of those barriers.

The alternative is to leave them in the fiat system without knowing there is an escape hatch.

We’d much rather prefer getting them on the road towards self-custody 🙏🏾

You are correct though, the goal has not & will not change.

Artists can self-host for little to no cost thanks to the growing community. No node? Custodial wallets work fine until you build one. No website to host your files? Others can lend their site for musicians to use, like ThunderRoad.media and Hyper Audio or Phantom Power. 💜

There is also ipfspodcasting.net that nostr:npub15z2javq62eh2xpms7yew0uzqsk4dr7t3q3dq4903uuxdyw2ca3kstx6q95 has been using for Lightning Thrashes, Jimmy V's stuff and other bands. Mike Neumann also uses it for Its a Mood.

So if someone is lending me their site to use, what is to stop them from doing exactly what you claim nostr:npub1yfg0d955c2jrj2080ew7pa4xrtj7x7s7umt28wh0zurwmxgpyj9shwv6vg would do?

I don’t understand the gripe here. I’ve said I agree that self custody is the goal, but there are barriers of entry when it comes to hosting a node when you are struggling to cover basic living expenses.

I’ve explained that there are barriers of entry for people, you are telling me to find more methods, that I’ve never used mind you, to tell people to use & at the same time tell them not to trust but verify.

Not sure what you plan to do here with this narrative as again, I’ve agreed that self custody is the goal.

Things don’t just happen automatically & I’m speaking from my personal experience as an artist in Africa that self hosts his own nodes.

Inbound liquidity alone is a very big barrier for many, and low cost is subjective when, again, people are struggling to meet their basic living expenses.

But hey, what do I know 🤷🏾‍♂️

I'm not trying to argue, just explaining non-purist methods of self-hosting that are still DeMu, decentralized music, and not putting faith and trust into a platform like WL which has already denied withdrawal of earned sats to an artist from Russia.

The beauty is the protocol: RSS. It's a contract transparent for all to see, so artists don't have to trust where their value is going when they ask someone to host the feed for them. They can verify the value is going where they agreed and directed it.

Noted 👍🏾
