Peter Mogila, a man of noble birth, chose the monastic life over worldly power. As Metropolitan of Kiev, he revitalized Orthodox education, founding schools and academies. When faced with aggressive proselytism from other faiths, he defended Orthodox doctrine with wisdom and established the Orthodox Confession, a defining text of faith.
