I guess, though, the issue will be the same as with all the other tools - convincing people around me to use them. They're totally hooked to Whatsapp, won't even try Signal which by any measure is basically the same sort of experience.
Not everyone will use it, but it is necessary to know these tools because when the time comes you can help others to communicate privately.
In my case, I don't use WhatsApp, if someone is unable to install Signal to talk to me is that he doesn't deserve to talk to me.

I think Signal still looks good to me despite being US-based, due to their being open-source.
It took me some time, but finally having almost all, at least the most important, people with me on SimpleX.
And I will keep pushing to take the rest of them with me. 🥷💯

All governments are testing the limits of censorship and what society will accept. When they are serious, it will be swift and without warning. The time for action is now and we are woefully unprepared. Finding the tools, implementing and testing them is an ongoing process I wish more people cared about.
