good that i now have fixed my client code so it reconnects in the rare event of some other cause of disconnection but it pretty much is running smooth as butter when i limit the message size to 128kb, which is gonna mean you can't put more than about 1000 in your follow list

if clients want to enable users to make such ridiculous lists, they should start focusing on the various categorised lists element of the protocol because this is just not a problem i'm gonna spend another hour on, tyvm gfy you sonofabitches
