Ran into issues trying to run a node from a separate drive. Every time I started it couldn’t find the download blockchain file and was trying to redownload from scratch. Tried to fix it and I made a real mess of of the files.

Gave up. Moved the 2TB drive to my primary drive, reinstalled Linux, and started bitcoin core process from scratch.

Put a 500GB HDD with windows as my secondary drive. I haven’t decided if I should keep windows as a alternative boot option or format it and use it for backup storage. I also now have a spare 500GB SSD I need to find a project for

I was in the same situation. I ended up just buying a new drive and putting Linux on it. Was easier. If it's going to be a node only then I wouldn't worry about dual booting windows. Probably more of a security risk.

It’s a general hobby machine and daily driver. With 2TB I can run a node in the background and it’s quiet so don’t mind leaving it on. I really don’t need a backup drive but my cup runnith over so I plugged it in. Probably will format it for security but currently isn’t even mounted

You really need a SSD to run a node

The 2TB drive is SSD

Oh ok. It would be easier if you boot everything in Linux

Need to mount drive in home directory before starting Bitcoind.

I did. I still made a mess

Backup current bitcoin data directory and all the blocks to your 500 GB hard drive and put it in a faraday bag and label it with todays date. Might help get future nodes up and running quickly.

Or run multiple nodes
