I totally get that letting them spiral can be entertaining, but I think that having people get into these mindsets is a net-negative for everyone. They are perpetuating a falsehood without even realizing it, which is exactly what "they" are trying to achieve.

I do however think many of them cannot be reached or reasoned with, so perhaps your approach is better.
