My grandma was a midwife.
When I was a teenager and some church members had kids, and shared how they were told to get their new Burns up every 3 hours to feed them during the night, my mom was shocked.
That was not the case when I was born. If the kid was sleeping, you let them sleep. If the kid wasn't sleeping, you tened to it if needed, and tried getting it to sleep through the night from the beginning.
My brother and I were never woken up every 3 hours (or woke up ourselves) to be fed through the night. This is some kind of new thing in maybe the last 20 years.
If you're a new parent and have heard that you have to wake your kid up, just know that we were all fine who didn't go through that, so unless there's a medical reason specific to your baby, it's okay to not get up.
