i think this is a good wake up call to people that we should have well maintained alternative implementations
people that are willing to do that work should apply to opensats

I tried to build it on Arch Linux a couple of years ago and was unable to. My feeling at the time was that it wouldn't run with up to date libraries. I see that Eric is still working on it so hopefully that has changed.
