The last sentence.

People defensive and the rest.

Our material needs are obviously related to what the environment has to offer.

Our needs, though, go well beyond the material plane.

In my mind the problem needs to be reversed. It’s not what we need, but how much we want to invest of our lives to get what we could. Balancing our time determines what we perceive as goals and goal is another word for need.

My english is not good enough for this kind of discussions LOL

My Italian isn't that good either. 😀

I think I understand what you mean.

The point of the quote was that there is a limit to what material things a person needs in order to have a high standard of living. Beyond that we're just satisfying our ego by acquiring more.

Those of us who have enough have a hard time admitting that.

When I said that needs are relative I meant that our needs depend on what we do. So someone working with technology needs the latest equipment. Someone who raises cattle needs more land. But a single person with a mansion doesn't need three vacation homes. Except for real estate investments which is another discussion.

Here we’re introducing social needs and the matter gets a lot more complicated. The goals, the needs, become alienated from the subject and fall prey of interests not easily defined. Not here, anyway.

I’d be happy if more of us could see that objects have an incredible power, that they actually rule us all.
