Bought Scrabble , haven't played it in under a decade . Can anyone tell me if this was always in the rule book?

I have never played it, but I'd confidently say no. The term "hate speech" hasn't been a thing until recently.
My thoughts precisely. It bothers me because the rule is subject to interpretation .

Well thats precisely it !
And a faggot ought to be a perfectly legitimate word , meaning a bundle of stick-like objects.
I mean , the idea of "hate speech" is a legal concept that varies from country to country , so wouldnt it then depend on which country you're playing in whether or not certain words are permitted?
I guess those are the new official rules for competitive play, though it would be beneficial if they listed the source of who defines what speech is considered hate.
My thoughts exactly. Seems strange to marry the rules of a board game to a legal framework though. It's very 2023 it has to be said.
