Just had a long convo with my boss/CEO at our legal aid org about election season and the real possibilities of a bigger Trump wave in swing states.

We could potentially deal with a lot more immigration cases at my org etc, so we regularly talk national politics and org strategy in my role, including with donors, etc.

She was shocked by me even saying there’s a chance of this. Many, many people here in MA, and other liberal coastal elites, still haven’t learned the lessons of 2016…that way more voters than they think don’t care about trumps rhetoric, jokes at rallies, etc. they just don’t. Many don’t care about the claims about democracy, support for Ukraine, etc.

If Trump wins, clearly Dems still have not learned much from 2016, or ways to actually address the needs or everyday people and seem relatable. It didn’t have to be this way.

I’m not shocked based on how they are acting in 2024 but it’s just completely astonishing to me that there’s absolutely zero self reflection on what they’re doing to put themselves in this position. Imagine if it was a more like-able Republican candidate than Donald Trump, what would they do then? They’re in complete and utter denial.
